Looking Back on 6.12

"6.9" (9 June 2019) is going to go down in the history of Hong Kong, with its significant number of one million citizens taking to the streets, unfolding a series of events in its wake.  But "6.12" (12 June 2019) is a date a lot more significant when it comes to our growth in this battle for freedom.

Despite its symbolic number, the "6.9" procession was no different from any other demonstrations over the past two decades, in a sense that it was still led by a pan-dem authority with participants still placed under its shackle.  The focus of the public was still on the number of participants and how the event would look on the news.  Most participants still honoured peacefulness and showed little mercy on or support to the small number of protesters who were brave enough to break away from the conventional peaceful manner.  The failure of such a ritual was blatantly highlighted by the government's announcement right that evening that it would carry on with its second reading as scheduled on Wednesday 12 June.

"6.12" (12 June 2019) was the first time we broke away from the old shackles and replaced the conventional useless means with the BE WATER strategy.  We followed no leadership, we stayed at no fixed spot, we went physical with the armed officers—we owned the matter in our hands.  And we dispersed once we reached our goal (i.e. getting the LegCo paralysed and the extradition bill stalled).

"6.12" was also the date that unfolded the subsequent Battle of Constitution Protection, which managed to expose CCP's latent evil intent on HK under the international limelight and also managed to earn Hong Kong a spot on the China-U.S. trade deal table.

A year gone, we have yet won this battle, not even close.  But we have to hold on with gritted teeth.  Victory is far, but not that remote.
