Over My Dead Body! Pan-dem Law-makers Should Have Come Forward

Over my dead body! Ain't it right?

A week-long work strike has ended.  Nothing feels more helpless than this, witnessing how it evolves but not able to do anything to help.  Words are not enough to describe that kind of agony.

What the healthcare professionals demand comes with sound reasons of course, and their burning danger is of course critical.  Yet, to close the border or not to close it is a political decision - one that should never be taken up by healthcare professionals.  Political decisions rest with political means.  Critical periods in the fight against the coronavirus are never the right time for healthcare professionals to hold their professionalism against the government, much less an unscrupulous one, for a political decision.

In fact, someone else in the society is more appropriate to stand up for our healthcare professionals, and they have indeed every reason to do so.  That someone else is the group of pan-democratic law-makers.  They have the responsibility to demand the government with the strongest and deadliest terms to take action to protect the territory and the live-saving professionals.  "Over my dead body!"  Doesn't it ring a bell?

I believe most healthcare professionals must have voted for this group of pan-dem law-makers in the last election.  Now is exactly the time we should put our votes to work!  The pan-democratic parties have decades of experience in being welfare parties.  Who else can do a better job than these people?  What healthcare professionals should have done is to take the protest to the headquarters of the Democratic Party and the Civic Party and press these law-making professionals to kick the government into action, instead of being led by them into some political maneuvering at the expense of your own professionalism.

Those supposedly good at political maneuvering chose not to get their hands dirty but to drag some other professionals in a different field into their turf to get the job done for them.  That's how ridiculous life is in Hong Kong.

We all live and learn.  May we all be wiser in the days to come.
